With this Thursday, August 7, 2014, being National Lighthouse Day, I thought I'd share with you some of our photos of Lighthouses on Lake Ontario.

Stony Point Lighthouse. A few years ago, friends of ours from Mexico, N.Y., Richard and Jean Leonard, owned this lighthouse. We had the opportunity to visit them in the lighthouse and toured their beautiful house, grounds, and lighthouse tower. They loved sharing their beautiful lighthouse with family and friends.

This lighthouse was built by the local American Legion post as a memorial for local veterans of all wars. Located adjacent to the town docks on Riverside Drive at John Street in downtown Clayton, Owner/site manager: Town of Clayton.

DeleteIt has been a long time since I visited any of the lighthouses in NY...it will be something to add to the list...last lighthouse I visited was in Cape Cod...we were part fo a group who climbed it to watch the sunset...fabulous pictures Sue!
ReplyDeleteA nice day trip for you up to the St. Lawrence and you could visit Tibbetts Point Lighthouse in Cape Vincent, the little memorial one Clayton, and Alexandria Bay. They have some beautiful views of the 'River' there, too, and you might see some ships passing by as well. Thanks for commenting, Donna.

There were a few more lighthouses that we wanted to photograph for this blog post, but when I saw that Aug 7 is National Lighthouse Day, I decided to go with the photos of the ones we currently have. Yes, the Stony Point Lighthouse is so beautiful. And the interior of the home is just as unique. So much character and history in these old lighthouses. I wish more of them were open to the public,

Thanks, Linda. The lighthouses each are unique in their own style and structure, and all so beautiful. And so nice to photograph especially if you can get a view of the water in with it as well.
